Agony

In the book of Job, it reveals he was a man of great wealth, but more importantly, he was an upright man who faithfully worshipped God. Regardless of his uprightness, Job underwent extreme suffering, losing his possessions, his children, and finally his health. A suffering that God permitted to take place. Throughout Job’s emotional journey that was shown by misery and determination, he inquired to God, why must I undergo such suffering when I have done nothing to deserve such treatment.
I can personally relate to experiencing agony on multiple levels. However, I will address a specific topic directly, losing family members. My mother passed away in my arms in 1996 at the age of forty-eight. My father passed before me in 2009 while hospitalized at the age of sixty-two, and my only brother, which was the baby, passed before me in 2022 while hospitalized at the age of forty-eight. Ironically, each of them was thirteen years apart. Their passing continues to be painful at times. While I still have my moments, I have learned how to live with its impact. The Book of Job offers hope; although God does not explain why Job endured such profound suffering, He reveals that He is yet God and the Creator. Furthermore, the Book of Job brings me joy as I can truly thank God for my wife and children. He has surrounded me with genuine love, and He has blessed me tremendously throughout the years.
My pastor played an essential role in my life during my brother’s hospitalization and passing. He offered wisdom and continued to be a presence during this critical period. He gave charitably of his time and provided encouragement throughout my season of grief (Always ensured my well-being). His presence and prayers were significant! As it relates to me, I experienced peace when I read the Word. John 14:27 KJV declares, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Although, I may still have my moments, I know God will provide and place me where I belong.
In closing, it is critical to know that God makes no mistakes, and He rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). When we are going through any type of agony, we must understand as children of God to always have faith and trust God. Proverbs 18:10 reminds us that the LORD is our strong tower. We can run to Him and find safety.
