Don't Talk, Just Listen

Don’t talk, just listen. Believe it or not, there is power in silence, messages often speak loudest when no words are spoken. Consider this, in the moments leading up to the crucifixion, there was an exchange between Jesus and Pilate. After the religious leaders demanded Jesus' execution for claiming to be the Son of God (Matthew 26:63-65), Pilate probed Him. Nonetheless, despite Pilate’s pressing inquiries, Jesus eventually went silent. And in that silence, Pilate was more astonished than he had been by any of Jesus' words.
Jesus' silence was not hesitation or passiveness; it was on purpose. He understood the corrupting nature of doubt and chose quietness as a form of resistance. As Pilate pressed for answers, Jesus offered none, not out of defeat, but because His mission was already complete. His silence was a quiet victory, a representation of Him standing before the Father on our behalf.
Consider this, by remaining silent, Jesus demonstrated how to respond to defamation, not with revenge but with restraint. His actions upheld His teachings, showing us that every attack does not require a verbal defense. Sometimes, to engage in the battle of words is to be drawn into the very defilement you're resisting. Jesus’ silence teaches us that dignity, purpose, and truth often speak most clearly when words are withheld.
Note: You can read about Jesus and Pilate in the Book of Matthew 27:11-26.
