Everything Gets Old but the Word of God

There is nothing quite like the feeling of receiving something new. As children, many of us remember moments when a parent with love in their voice said, “Go ahead and get you something.” What joy would flood our hearts! Whether it was a toy, a treat, or a small trinket, it did not matter what it was. The thrill was simply that it was new. The feeling was unmatched, pure, innocent exultation and that feeling does not completely leave us. We grow older, get our first jobs, and anticipate that first paycheck. With excitement, we mentally map out how we will spend it. As adults, we still find joy in acquiring new things: homes, cars, clothes, or jewelry. However, as time passes, that “new” thing becomes “just another thing.” The excitement fades. The novelty wears off. The cycle repeats.

The Word states, “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9, KJV). This ancient truth reminds us that in this physical world, everything eventually loses its shine. The new becomes old. The cycle continues. We seek again what will not last. This is the reality of life “under the sun.” Nevertheless, above the sun, beyond the temporal, there is something truly new, something ever living, ever refreshing, and ever true: the Word of God! “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8, KJV). While material things age and fade, God’s Word never grows old. It is timeless and eternal. Each time we open Scripture with an open heart, God speaks! He brings new revelation, renewed peace, and lasting hope. His Word is not bound by time, it transcends it.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword...” (Hebrews 4:12, KJV). It is alive. It pierces to the core of our being dividing soul from spirit, exposing truth, and healing wounds. The Word of God is our spiritual GPS, our moral compass, our fountain of living water. It discerns our thoughts, shapes our lives, and leads us into everlasting life. Now, for most, this is something new. God's Word reveals who we are (created in His image) and who we are becoming through His Spirit. The Word does not just inform us; it transforms us. Through the Word, we become rooted in wisdom, strengthened in faith, and empowered to live rightly.

Consider this: the Apostle Paul understood the power of the Word. His life was radically changed by the voice of Jesus and the truth of Scripture. Because of his obedience, generations have encountered Christ through his writings. His story is proof that when the Word takes root, it bears eternal fruit.
