Leviticus 19:9-10 (KJV)

And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 19:9-10 expresses by what means an individual should treat and support the unfortunate, if the individual is fortunate to have a better life. As this scripture addresses the reaping of the harvest, it specifically states that food be left behind for the poor and the stranger. God instructed the Hebrews to provide for those in need. This type of support was a requirement when considering the poor and ensuring that they would be taken care of (No one should be displaying a sign of greed). Although this chapter is associated with the Old Testament (OT) and how people should treat one another in their daily lives; this sort of support should not be excluded from our world today. There are people who are suffering and requiring assistance due to various conditions. It may not be food from a harvest but there could be other key essentials. As believers, we need to look out for these individuals. After all, I believe this type of kindness can involve more than what is being referenced in the OT as it relates to food. I see generosity as financial, love, support, being introduced to salvation, etc. Whatever produces the love of God and can be shared with others.

Psalm 133 (KJV) states, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in UNITY!”  Psalm sums it all up, HARMONY!

Indeed! Those of us who are blessed, I pray we never forge words of Jesus that the poor will always be with us and to never forget the least of thee.
