When a Purpose Serves Everyone

The resurrection of Jesus is vital. It witnesses to the immeasurable power of God Himself. To believe in the resurrection is to believe in God. If God exists and created the universe and has power over it, He has power to raise the dead. If He does not have such power, He is not a God worthy of our faith and worship. Only He who created life can resurrect life after death. “So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:54-55). In resurrecting Jesus from the grave, God reminds us of His absolute sovereignty over life and death.
Satan seemed to be victorious in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3), but when Jesus died on the cross, God turned satan’s apparent victory into defeat when Jesus Christ rose from the dead. “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had power of death, that is, the devil. And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Hebrews 2: 14-15). Jesus had to become human (flesh and blood) so He could die and rise again, in order to destroy the devil’s power over death (Roman 6:5-11). When we belong to God, we need not fear death, for we know that death is only the beginning of eternal life (1 Corinthians 15).
In closing, the resurrection of Jesus is a testimony to the resurrection of human beings, which is a basic belief of the Christian faith. As Christians, we take comfort in the fact that our God became man, died for our sins, and was resurrected the third day. The grave could not hold Him. He lives, and He sits today at the right hand of God the Father in heaven.
